Langley rumba flamenco guitarist John Gilliat is ready to let his fingers fly once more.
The Langley musician is preparing to team up with Los Angeles-based Spanish guitar virtuoso Benjamin Woods for a stirring performance at Fort Langley’s Chief Sepass Theatre.
Gilliat is a longtime resident, whose trademark stye is a fiery, world beat fusion of rumba flamenco and Latin jazz. For three decades, the Westcoast Music Award nominee has toured throughout North America and Japan, while his recordings have been used for radio, documentaries, television and film.
Woods, meanwhile, is one of the few American flamenco guitarists ever featured in Spain’s top newspaper “El Pais” and its best-selling flamenco magazine, ALMA 100.
He is also the founding member of L.A.’s flamenco, metal fusion group Flametal.
Joining Gilliat and Woods, will be bass guitarist Brent Gubbels, Latin percussionist Lyndon Dewitt and flamenco dancer/vocalist, Stephanie Pedraza.
Pedraza is a unique combination of singer, songwriter, and flamenco dancer/cantaora based in Vancouver.
Born in to a Latin American family and having moved to Colombia at a very early age, she has been constantly immersed in her Latin roots of song and dance.
The performance is Saturday, March 12 at 8 p.m. in the Fort Langley Fine Art School’s Chief Sepass Theatre.
