Weddings are fun, especially a cousin’s.

Well, Langley residents can experience “My Cousin’s Wedding” every month now, thanks to Bez Arts Hub co-founders Sandy and Russ Rosen.

Having struggled to find a place to dance regularly in Langley, the husband-and-wife team figured they weren’t the only ones.

“More often than not, we only dance at family or friends’ weddings these days. We figured that people could use a fun community dance party, more like a wedding dance party,” Sandy explained.

The to-be monthly dance event titled “My Cousin’s Wedding” is open to all, and people can come with their friends, partner, and/or families.

The first unofficial trial event, held in December, was well received, Sandy noted. Some people even dressed up.

The DJ music played the year’s top hits, and “everyone just danced,” Sandy said.

“The whole thing started with an 11-year-old boy and his dad dancing, then a bunch of single young adults from Vancouver joined in, then a crowd of young couples, dressed in suits and long dresses… we seemed to have all ages in the mix, most dancing the whole night,” she recalled.

It’s different from going to a club, Sandy said, because it’s just about dancing close to home.

“I look forward to this being another way we can connect as a community, another way for us to stop being isolated from each other,” she shared.

The monthly dance series kicks off on Saturday, Jan. 20, from 7 until 10:30 p.m.

Tickets can be purchased online at bezartshub.com.
