Following the family tradition of giving back to the community, father and son, Dave – owner of Alder Liquor Store – and Sunny Sharma, are inviting people for a free meal on Tuesday, Jan. 2.

Since 2020, the Sharma family purchases meal boxes loaded with South Asian dishes from Veerji Fish n’ Grill to hand-out for free to those in need.

“My dad and grandpa always gave back to the community [when we lived] in Abbotsford, and I wanted to follow in their footsteps,” the Aldergrove-based realtor explained.

This year, he said they already have 52 families signed up for the free meals, which can be picked up at the Aldergrove Food Bank.

“The [food bank] has double the demand this year [compared] to last year because of inflation,” Sharma noted.

Families can register for a free meal by calling Sharma at 604-300-5077 or Mary van Zuuk of the food bank at 604-857-1671. Registration is open until Dec. 31.

Dave and Sunny Sharma were also present at this year’s Light Up Christmas Parade in Aldergrove, where they distributed tea, coffee, and cookies for free.

Aldergrove’s food bank is located at 27524 Fraser Hwy., and is open from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Tuesdays.
