A six-storey condo has been proposed for the site where Gabby’s Country Cabaret operated for many years in downtown Langley City.

Kerr Properties Ltd. filed a development permit application with the City on April 4 to develop the lot on the northwest corner of 203rd Street and Fraser Highway.

If approved, the project would be six storeys tall, with 78 apartments on the upper floors, and 678 square metres of commercial space in the ground floor.

The apartments would include 35 one-bedroom units, 34 two-bedroom units, and nine three-bedroom units.

There would also be bike parking for residents on site.

The project has not yet been approved.

If built, it will be a short walk across 203rd Street from the future SkyTrain station planned for a lot on the east side of 203rd Street, in line with Industrial Avenue.

The site was the home for more than 35 years of Gabby’s Country Cabaret, a nightclub that featured live country music acts. It was also a popular filming location, and was featured in the teen drama Riverdale, among other TV productions over the years.

Before its life as a nightclub, it had been a cold storage facility, originally built in the 1930s.

Gabby’s closed its doors during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. The building was torn down in the spring of 2021.
