Snow and extreme weather warnings in Langley

A snowfall warning and extreme weather alert are in effect for Langley.

Gateway of Hope at 5787 Langley Bypass has issued an “extreme weather activation’ advisory, citing temperatures that are or feel like 0 degrees Celsius and below.

“If you are sleeping outside, please come to the safety of the shelter!” said the notice released by Cristina Schneiter residential services manager at The Salvation Army Gateway of Hope.

Gateway operates between 7 p.m. and 10 a.m. with 15 mats for Adults 19+

Intake is open until the site is full. Gateway is wheelchair accessible and pet friendly (on a leash or in a kennel)

Dinner, breakfast and lunch provided. Laundry service and showers are available .

“If you require shelter assistance after 9p.m., call the RCMP at 604-532-3200 and they will help you to a location,” the notice said.

Environment Canada has put out a couple of snowfall warnings for regions of the province, specifically higher terrain around inland and east Vancouver Island and Metro Vancouver.

In the Lower Mainland, around five centimetres of snow is expected for higher elevations, while up five centimetres is expected elsewhere. Environment Canada is warning of slushy or slippery road and sidewalk conditions, along with reduced visibility.
