Police are still looking for suspects after a vehicle was found torched following a targeted shooting in Mission.

The event unfolded around 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday (Dec. 6) when Mission RCMP responded to a report of shots fired at a vehicle in the Real Canadian Superstore parking lot on Lougheed Highway.

Mounties found a 41-year-old man inside a parked vehicle with multiple gunshot wounds.

The man, who is known to police and is believed to have ties to the B.C gang conflict, suffered serious injuries and is recovering in hospital.

The suspect vehicle – a grey Jaguar SUV – was found burned in Surrey later that night.

RCMP are now clarifying that a Dodge Durango that was seen leaving the area after the shooting is not associated with the suspect vehicle.

Through witness interviews, Mission RCMP Cpl. Harrison Mohr said investigators learned that a young mother was out shopping with her niece and was putting the groceries in the back of her vehicle – a Dodge Durango – when the shots were fired nearby. The two quickly jumped into her vehicle and sped off to get to safety.

As they drove off, the tailgate of her vehicle remained open, and items including a box of baby diapers, some baby clothes and a poinsettia flew out into the parking lot.

“Witnessing this type of incident is not something anyone should ever have to experience,” said Mohr with Mission RCMP.

Mission RCMP’s Victim Services unit has been engaged, and is available to help anyone who witnessed the shooting and is looking for some added support or referrals.

When police interviewed the woman in the Dodge Durango and learned about her ordeal, they notified staff at the Real Canadian Superstore, who offered to provide her with a gift card to reimburse her for the lost items.

Anyone who saw a grey Jaguar SUV around the area of the Real Canadian Superstore on the night of Wednesday Dec. 6, and any other witnesses who have not yet spoken with police are asked to call Mission RCMP at 604-826-7161.
